Fat Injection

Fat injection/grafting is a technique used to sculpt or add volume to the face (or occasionally as an adjunct for breast reconstruction). Often, as a person grows older, tissue and fat diminish and cause a sagging and aging effect. Fat injection is used as a safe, long-lasting and natural-appearing way to limit the aging effect and replace the tissues and fat that have diminished.

Those who benefit the most from fat grafting are those who desire augmentation or filling of area that are volume deficient. The areas that are most commonly augmented are the hands, face (including the lips), and depressions in the skin contour that have developed from liposuction and scarring. Patients who are usually considered for fat injection are in good health.

This procedure is growing in popularity, as fat is one of the most well-tolerated fillers available, and thus can be used in a large variety of applications. It is long-lasting, and has a very natural appearance. It can be used to change body contour, improving scarred areas, filling depressions created by liposuction, and improving the hands and face.
The swelling and bruising associated with fat injection usually resolves within 2 to 3 weeks.
